March 2023
The Lenten Season at UIH begins now. Even though Lent begins officially on February 22, 2023, an
opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Lent and the powerful personal message it can have can be at any time.
The word
Lent refers to Spring and the experience of daylight being longer because the tilt of the Earth is more important than distance from the sun. This can be useful spiritual information as we consider ourselves and how we “tilt” our consciousness in relation to how distant we are from our spiritual identity. During the 40 days we can “tilt” our consciousness upward and straight through prayer and contemplation.
During a pre-selected period of time you can give your attention to:
7 Centers of Contemplation
The 7 Centers of Contemplation refer to the Biblical account of Jesus’ 7 last sayings. They are as follows:
1 Father, forgive them for they do not know what they
are doing.
2 Today you shall be with me in paradise.
3 Woman, behold your son! Behold, your mother!
4 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
5 I
thirst.
6 It is finished.
7 Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
You can choose to reflect in any way that fits your understanding of Lent at this time in your life. Here are some suggestions:
- 7 Consecutive Days to send friendly cards or calls to someone of your choice
- 7 Pre-chosen opportunities to lift your
spirit
- 7 Contemplation walks
- 7 Separately lit candles representing each Contemplation
- 7 Written expressions about the 7 Contemplations ending on
Easter Sunday
Jesus like Moses & Elijah took 40 personal days in retreat. Moses received the 10 Commandments, Elijah
on Mount Horeb heard the still small voice.

done” Luke 22:42
