GOSPELGRAM
This month begins the Season of Advent - the arrival of a notable person. Each Sunday there is a message about the story
of Jesus’ birth and the drama surrounding it.
Joseph with Mary leave their home because a census of the Roman world was required by Caesar Augustus. They travel from Nazareth to Galilee, to Bethlehem and then to the Town of David where they are no longer able to register. Joseph must find shelter for his
wife and soon-to-be-born child. “While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in a cloth and placed him in a manger, because
there was no room for them in the Inn.” (Luke 2:6-7).
Sometimes like Joseph and Mary we take a circuitous route to reach a new truth:
An angel visited Mary to tell her she was going to give birth.
In a dream Joseph learned that he was to marry a young girl
already pregnant and was
told the name of the baby.
Their travels take them many miles from home for this wondrous birth.
Led by a star, three wise men found them,
worship the baby bringing gifts.
These markers remind us to be alert to messages from Divine Spirit:
Listen to your higher self (your angel)
Listen to your dreams for guidance
Follow what you hear and see the light (your star) within
Trust what you know
The story of the birth of Jesus has lessons for us when it is time for us to experience a personal birth – a birth that is as much the SON of God, born in the image and likeness just like Jesus.
