GOSPELGRAM
November 2023
Giving thanks in
troubled times.
It is easy to be thankful when the occasion is full of happiness, love, and joy. It fulfills the meaning of being grateful according to what is accepted by the world around us.
It is difficult to find ways to offer thanksgiving as wars ravage a country and its people. When losses are so grim it is challenging to stop feelings of despair, helplessness, and hopelessness. These feelings grip those who try to make sense of it all, not only those who are living war everyday but also those on the sidelines watching it all.
But there are windows of hope and help. We listen to individuals and organizations on the ground giving touching care to the people who are filled with physical and emotional pain. We listen for break-throughs in negotiations to cease acts of war and begin acts of kindness. We listen for the pause that says “enough.” We have satisfied our need for revenge.
The ultimate window of hope is a realization that all humankind are born with the image and likeness of the Creator…God within. A decision can be made to put forth that image. The likeness is the same - how we treat one another. Treat another human being the way you would want them to treat you. An easy concept
but so
hard to realize.
Everyday all over the world humankind is realizing this is the final hope. When will it be universal? It begins with you. It begins with me.
Let’s give thanks for the
realization.
