Lent began in the Christian world on February 17th this year. Now we are in the midst of the Lenten Season.
Many see this season of the religious community as a yearly opportunity to reflect on their religious behavior from the perspective of the life of Jesus Christ as he prepared himself to be the sacrifice for the world as the savior of
mankind for the forgiveness of sin.
The question posed to members of the Christian church is “What will I “sacrifice” for the sins I have committed and reflect on for 40 days? How will I change?
Over the course of hundreds of years, the “sacrifice” of Jesus has remained the same in teachings through the major expressions of the Christian Faith. For the follower of Christianity, the focus of the “sacrifice” has been
reduced to sacrificing one’s self of the habits in eating, drinking, and refraining from thoughts about people that are not positive.
We in Truth expressed through Unity would take a different view. It would be the meaning of “sacrifice” must be focused on consciousness not on behavior that’s ready to renounce old beliefs and believe in new ideas that are more
Christ like in nature.
I would add that the process of “sacrifice” is refining in nature as well. This would mean that Lent is not a once a year, once and for all change in 40 days. It is a process that is constantly going on.
Blessings.
