Our theme for GOSPELGRAM IN in April has been RISE UP!
The issues in our Nation most recently demonstrated demands a call to action. A call to RISE UP! In fact, the recent tragedies that have been done through acts of violence and mired the Nation in grief are very much connected to
all the challenges before the American people in this Great Pause. The actions are rooted in how this country decided to react to people that were different than people that were not the original founding fathers.
The root response to Native Americans, Africans, Hispanic, Latinos, East Asians, Japanese, Chinese, other people of color, homophobia sexual preferences, transgender, misogyny, disabilities of all kinds has been in one word: the
use of violence. Violence in words, actions, legislative laws, regulations, and codes of all kinds.
Until the root cause of violence and its nature is faced with the only counterpart to it, non-violence we will continue to have these experiences.
The 1960s Civil Rights Revolution was accomplished without one single shot being fired by the protesters. Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr led a movement based on the Gandhian philosophy of non-violent protest. Training was
given to protestors on how to react when violence was thrusted upon them during peaceful demonstrations.
Since that time non-violence is mentioned in the national dialogue among those who look to bring about social justice but is not a pre-requisite for participants. It is time that there is a commitment to non-violent training for
everyday living. The very life of America and democracy is dependent upon it.
It is time to learn how to RISE UP and live non-violently in thoughts, words, and actions by any means possible.
Blessings.
