COMING OUT…
These two words are frequently heard these days and especially this past month. Pride month is filled with stories of individuals who have struggled with making the decision to “come out” as person who has identified themselves
more with those who are gender different than the majority population.
It is now becoming more acceptable to hear people who have a public platform in sports, government, entertainment, or military to share their inner dialogue with themselves as to when they decided to take that step and let the world
know who they are and how they feel.
There is another “coming out” that is taking place no less terrifying or challenging because of the Great Pause for some people. Since the issue has not been front and center all their lives the past year has forever framed
their future without the assurance of a medical breakthrough that would guarantee a cure.
The larger population does not have a platform to share their fears and hesitancy to fully “come out”. Who would stop and listen to them? No one. It is left up to the individual as whether they will fully “come out”
and how.
I wonder how different or the same is the “coming out” to a gender different person or non-medically insured person?
Just for the record, this is being written by a heterosexual female who is not sure what it means to fully “come out” even though, she is vaccinated.
